We do two jobs on asphalt shingle roofs. Shingle roof replacement: the old roof comes off down to the deck and a new shingle roof goes on. Shingle repair: we replace the damaged, lifted or missing shingles, fix the flashing or vent that let the water in, and leave the rest of the roof alone.
Which one you need depends on the roof. We look properly, photograph what we find, and tell you straight when a repair is enough.
A shingle roof replacement from us is a full tear off, never a second layer over the old one. We strip the roof to the deck so the plywood can be inspected, replace any damaged wood, then build the new roof from the edge up: metal drip edge, ice and water shield in the valleys and along the eaves, underlayment, and new asphalt shingles fastened in a 6-nail pattern.
Weighing shingles against metal or rubber? Our page on roof replacement in Calgary compares the materials.
Most roof leaks start with something small: a few shingles lifted or blown off by wind, a cracked vent collar, lifted flashing or nails that have backed out. A shingle repair replaces the damaged shingles, fixes what let the water in, and leaves the rest of the roof alone.

We look at the whole roof before we answer, and we tell you when a repair is enough. These are the patterns that decide it:
Our guide on whether to repair or replace a roof in Calgary goes through the decision in more detail.
Hail is the reason shingle choice matters in Calgary. The Insurance Bureau of Canada puts the August 5, 2024 Calgary hailstorm at $3 billion in insured losses, and reported that almost one in five homes in the city was affected.
No. The City of Calgary lists roofing materials among the things you can replace or repair without a permit. Changing from shingles to clay roofing material is the exception it names, and that needs a building permit.
We install architectural and Class 4 impact-resistant asphalt shingles, including Malarkey and GAF.
Malarkey makes its shingles with SBS polymer modified asphalt, which it calls rubberized: the rubber polymers add flexibility and help the shingle absorb hail impact. Its Vista shingle is listed with a Class 4 impact rating, a limited lifetime manufacturer warranty and an enhanced wind warranty of up to 130 mph (209 km/h). Those are the manufacturer's terms and they come with conditions, so ask us for the warranty document for the exact shingle in your quote. Malarkey also states that its extended warranties are available from Malarkey Certified Contractors, so ask any roofer, including us, which manufacturer programs they are enrolled in.

For an average 2,000 sq. ft. Calgary home, a new asphalt shingle roof typically runs $9,000 to $14,000. The size of the roof, the pitch, the shingle you choose and any rotten decking found once the old shingles are off all move the price, which is why we measure before we quote. Our Calgary roof replacement cost guide goes through each of those.
A shingle repair is priced after the diagnostic. Our minimum charge for a roof repair is $860, and the $160 diagnostic comes off the bill when you go ahead.

Straight answers on small repairs, colour matching, warranty and winter work.
Yes. If the rest of the roof still has life in it, we replace the damaged, lifted or missing shingles and leave the rest alone. We tell you honestly when a repair is all you need.
We do our best to match the brand and colour. Sun fading on an older roof means new shingles can stand out a little at first.
No. The 10-year workmanship warranty is for full roof replacements, and it sits on top of the manufacturer's warranty on the materials. It does not apply to repairs.
Yes, with care. Asphalt shingles need warmth to seal their adhesive strip, so in cold weather we hand seal where required and time the work around chinooks and clear weather. We handle emergency repairs year round.
No, but we recommend being there for the initial setup. We need access to a power outlet, and to your driveway for the disposal bin.
Replacement quotes are free. A repair starts with a $160 diagnostic, credited in full to the repair.
